Happy Valentines Day to all of our Actual Size faithful's out there! Today I brought in some angel food cupcakes with whipped cream frosting, topped off with a chocolate covered strawberry for all of my office-mates. Hoping that would help get everyone in gear for the exciting and busy work weeks to come. We are in the midst of a few different projects here at the office -and I would know, as I have built a special relationship with the Asana program (our neighborhood, friendly, online task manager). One project we're currently working on is partnering with a long-running client of ours, the Family Resources group Nurturing Fathers. We are helping them with a five-event project series to promote the vision of the Nurturing Fathers and provide an all around fun experience to the families they touch! The team is working hard on multiple aspects of this project; web, print and video, to get ready for the first event in the series, the Dad & Me Breakfast on February 25th.
Aside from that project we're keeping busy with a multitude of other things, for which our team here is always ready and able. Thanks to excellent organizational skills on April's part, we are running like a well oiled machine (pardon my lack of creative analogies). We are balancing web projects for some of our big name clients and continuing on-going projects with clients we've had relationships with for years. All while still having time to keep the atmosphere on the 5th floor light-hearted and fun.
It's been really nice for me to see first hand how a design team takes on as much as they do, and still incorporates personal connections and creative bonds with each client. I take my hat off to ASC and can't wait to see the end results of all of these projects.
And don't worry I'll keep all of you posted too!
"Earth, Wind and Fire" radio is filling the office today thanks to Eric and Pandora. Not a bad way to wind down from the work week. It's especially nice to hear smooth 70's jams while digesting from the Legendary WINGFEST: 2012! That's right, today was the day that the long running ASC tradition came to pass. Seven of the eight Actual Sizers piled into Mary's car at lunch time today to venture into the ellusive Southside. April unfortunately couldn't join us leaving Mary and I to rep the female population of the office alone.
We rolled into Fat Heads where veterans Bob, Joe, Mary and Steve S. had all made their mark during the last Wingfest, and sat down to a heaping pile of wings. We were about to do what no other design team has done before; take on a whopping 110 wings. (Not to mention a superb batch of onion rings, just to get the taste buds flowing.) We dug in with eyes bigger than our stomachs as we shoveled wing after wing into our hungry bellies. As the plates began to empty, our stomachs started to fill...and after about an hour of munching we were left with only 13 wings on the table. A sad defeat for such a valiant effort.
Even with the shame of carrying home a styrofoam box of Fat Heads Originals, we drove home with our heads held high. I was very honored to be initiated into another ASC tradition, as I'm sure Steve G. and Eric were also. When we got back to the office it was back to work as usual. Everyone working hard to tie up any loose ends before taking-off for the weekend. Another week has come and gone for me at the office and I can't wait to see what the next one will bring.
Until next time!
Hello all. My name is Leah and I'm yet another of the new Actual Sizers here on Smithfield Street. Having started my second week, I'm finally getting my sea legs and really feeling like I'm making a difference in this creative world. First off I suppose I should let you all in on what I do. Basically, I do all of the little things that help to make this company move and shake like the hip-hoppin', be-boppin' designers we have here in the office (and I'm not just talking about the wide range of jams radiating from Eric's cubicle next to mine). Everyone here at the office has individual talents and equally as individual work styles, which is why my job exists; to make sure everyone gets done what they need to get done.
In my first week here I familiarized myself with the systems already in place and helped to put into action new forms of organization. I am learning daily, different ways to make task management more efficient within the office and especially how to make things work for each member of the team. Aside from organizing the tasks and helping everyone to maximize productivity, I am trying to fit into this quirky and fun environment.
Surprise, surprise, I'm yet another Penn State grad giving me a leg up I hope in the eyes of my new co-workers! I graduated a year ago but couldn't bare to leave Happy Valley until this December...which I guess some would say I left just in time. But now that I'm back in Pittsburgh I couldn't ask for a better place to put my communications degree into action. I love the fact that I can help out in an office setting and learn SO MUCH about a field that I've worked these past four years to be a part of. I get to read, write, organize (the neat freak that I am), learn, and have fun. What more could a girl ask for?
All I need to do now is ease the team into the full spectrum that is Leah Braun. Although I might not join in when tiny green discs go zooming over my head from the Nerf shooting extravaganza between Joe and Eric, I do have a few fun things up my sleeve I hope to introduce to the rest of the Actual Sizers as my time here continues. I'm especially excited for my time-to-shine on Friday breakfast duty, a tradition I am SUPER excited to be a part of. Shout out to Bob and Joe for the spectacular french toast and wide array of delicious toppings, couldn't have been more excited to be at work on a Friday! I can only imagine what will be in store for me this week.
Well, I guess that's all for now. I'll be writing again soon, hopefully with more updates on the crazy happenings or exciting new projects. For now, thanks for reading and stay tuned for more!
